Dr. Matthew Bennett: Following my honours undergraduate degree in Mathematics at the University of Victoria, I completed my medical school training, and residencies in both internal medicine and cardiology at the University of British Columbia. I then completed a fellowship in adult clinical cardiac electrophysiology at the University of Western Ontario. I have worked as a Cardiologist in British Columbia over the last 9 years. My practice is diverse spanning both the clinical and research realms. My clinical practice is located at the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver Acute site which is a quaternary care hospital. There, in addition to caring for arrhythmia patients in an office based practice I also perform simple and complex ablation and device implantation. My research interest focuses on the appropriateness of device implantation and the optimization of device programming to improve device longevity and function. I am the regional lead for the heart rhythm device program, associate director of the heart rhythm research group and committee member for the Vancouver General Hospital Cardiology research group. In 2016, I co-chaired and was lead author for the joint Canadian Heart Rhythm Society and Canadian Cardiovascular Society’s implantable cardioverter defibrillator guidelines. I am currently a reviewer for the Canadian Journal of Cardiology, the Journal of interventional cardiac electrophysiology and Heart. In addition, I am on the international advisory board for Heart. I am an active member of the Canadian Heart Rhythm Society (CHRS) and Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS). I am currently the education chair for the Canadian Heart Rhythm Society and was previously a board member. In my current role, I am responsible for organizing the arrhythmia related content for the Canadian Cardiovascular Society’s Annual conference. In addition, I oversee the regular CHRS webinars, CHRS annual general meeting and the CHRS fellows’ course.
